The time has finally come for all of us here at RS to celebrate our coming out, and no I am not referring to the conversation you have with your parents after rollerblading. We are throwing a killer rock show Fri Feb 26th at The Ghost Room, featuring some of the best bands in Austin: Watch Out For Rockets, Corto Maltese, and Oh No Oh My. We will be giving out lots of FREE T-SHIRTS, mixtapes and various schwag, and because we know you kids are all voyeurs we will have a photo-booth for posing and throwing shapes! Also you can’t forget about the musical styles of the rhythmsektion djs. It is surely going to be a great night and we are all very excited, this will certainly not be the last time you hear tireless promotion for this show, STAY TUNED.
Now we all know the Chi-town rapper Twista has been spittin lighting fast rhyme time since the mid nineties, but I stumbled upon these tracks and it brought me right back to the high school days of swervin in a burban. Please kick the seat back, split a white and drive real slow, and always run from the police!
These two tracks are from Twista’s side project he did with the Speedknot Mobstaz back in 1998, and it is some choice stuff I must say.
Twista & The Speedknot Mobstaz – Party Hoes
Twista & The Speedknot Mobstaz – Legit Ballers
This Track is from Twista’s other famous project Do or Die (Do you wanna riiiiiiiiiiiide? in the backseat of a cadday?) Oh yeah and it features southern rap LEGEND Bun B (R.I.P Pimp-C)
Do or Die – Hey Ma! feat. Bun B
All of this music is avaiable on amazon mp3 and also on Twista’s and Do or Die’s myspace. If you do not own these tracks I highly recommend purchasing this sh*t so that you can roll hard in yo whip.
Learning Secrets just announced their 6th Anniversary party with big-time disco daddies Classixx and Woolfy. Tickets are only $5 if you RSVP right HERE.
Rhythm Sektion is seriously super pumped about this night; we’re looking forward to it like nothing else. We’ve posted quite a few things on Classixx over the past year, and this 12″ from Woolfy was one of the first records I bought to pursue the art of spee-innin. So to tickle the fancies of our Austin readers, Classixx was nice enough to field some questions we had for them.
Hello, what are y’alls names and where do you hail from originally?
Classixx is me (Tyler Blake) and Micahel David. We grew up together in the suburbs about an hour drive north of Los Angeles.
When in your life did you begin making music? What music from growing up influences you the most today?
We have been making music since we were in middle school. We were influenced by a lot of the stuff our parents listened to like Talking Heads and a lot of New Wave as well as Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel and Michael Jackson. We were into a lot of indie rock music in High School and that probably comes through in what we do. Later we started listening to stuff like Daft Punk and everything on DFA Records. Around that time we got turned on to disco and funk.
You call L.A. home, what excites you the most about the scene out there?
Its a really pretty place and the weather is better than anywhere I know consistently so it’s usually nice to come back to when we are way. Also, we have a lot of friends who support each other here musically usually the only time we go out when we are in town is to see friends like Acid Girls DJ. Its exciting that everyone supports each other but at the same time not all the music sounds the same. In fact, it’s all pretty different.
You have an incredible knack for taking high-energy dance music and filtering it to a more canonized “classic” disco sound; it seems your name is an intentional reference to this production style. How do y’all approach songs and form an idea on how to transform them?
One of us usually just has an idea we like for a chorus, or a synth part or a bassline or even a drum beat or whatever and then Mike will show it to me or I’ll show Mike and we work from there. If you have something good to build upon it makes it easier. Its still pretty hard for us though. It takes us a long time.
What are you looking forward to most in your DJ set this next Friday?
We’re excited that there seems to be some people looking forward to seeing us this year. That’s a new and exciting feeling because we have been working at this for a while.
Is there some original Classixx material in the works for you guys?
Yeah, we are really excited to put about new stuff. We have a lot songs we are working on and we will be putting out stuff this year for sure.
